History:

The town and area around was originally explored in 1652 but ongoing hostilities between the English, French, and their Native American allies prevented settlement of the land until 1761, then named Meredith Bridge. However, it wasn’t until 1855 that Laconia was incorporated as a town from the land in Meredith Bridge.
