Biography

Connecting People with Homes

In the course of my career I have moved several times, out to the Midwest, to the Mid-Atlantic region, and then back to New England.  So I can empathize with people moving to a new job and or a new location.  It's a lot of hard work, and since I've been there, I'll try to make your transition as painless as possible.

Before joining Prudential Verani I spent several years as a library director.  Much of the work I did concerned the buildings that housed the libraries I managed. I have brought to my new profession a wealth of experience garnered from the innumerable dealings I had over the years with electricians, plumbers, roofers, heating/cooling equipment installers and repairers, floorers, carpenters, etc., etc., and even an architect or two when a major renovation was envisioned.

People often ask me why I went into real estate.  I have always felt that a person's home is a very important component of his life.  I went into librarianship to help people find the information they needed to better their lives.  I see my role as a Realtor as being very similar: to work with buyers and sellers so that they can move onto a new stage of their life, whether that be buying a first home or a better home, or selling a well-loved house to go elsewhere.

I've lived in three unique homes over the years:  a small ivy-covered red brick bungalow with three outdoor patios and an extensive garden, a stone A-frame a builder constructed for himself with window walls overlooking fields and a forest, and most recently a large contemporary home whose foundation was blasted out of a granite hillside, and which I'm enjoying updating inside and out. Although each is very different, I have liked them all very much.

I have always been interested in homes - they are such an important part of one's life.  There are many guides to "the best place to live," but of course what makes a place attractive to one (say, for example, lots of snow for skiing) may make it very undesirable for another.

Two of my favorite books on the subject of housing are: Home: A Short History of an Idea by Witold Rybczynski and How Buildings Learn: What happens after they're built by Stewart Brand.

The Rybczynski book is a tour through history and cultures that shows that the meaning of what a home is has changed significantly over time and still means very different things to people in the East and West today.  Home shows that our present-day ideas of privacy and comfort didn't exist until fairly recently.  Our ancestors, even the wealthiest of them, lived in cold, dreary buildings with few of what we would call "the comforts of home."

How Buildings Learn is actually about what we can learn from buildings.  When a home is constructed, it isn't finished - it's life has just begun.  What is the perfect home for one family might be too small, too dark, too large, or divided into too many rooms (or not enough) for another family.  This book shows by numerous examples how successive owners change buildings to meet their changing needs.  Contrary to conventional wisdom, a building is anything but a permanent fixed structure on the landscape.

I believe in donating time to help the community at large; as I result, I have volunteered with local, regional, and national professional associations, and organizations such as the Exchange Club, Rotary, and local business associations. At present, I serve on the Board of Trustees of the library in my home town of Brookline.

In my spare time I like travelling, gardening, and flying around New England in a Cessna 310, getting a bird's-eye view of the countryside I like so much.

Testimonials

Steve was very thorough in his marketing preparation of my home so that it could be listed at the right price. Steve worked very hard for me and was always extremely responsive. He offered great advice as we negotiated our way through not only the sale of my home but also the purchase of my current home. Both transactions went very smoothly. I would recommend him. Thank you Steve.

Steve Russo did an outstanding job in assisting me to sell our house. It turned out to be more complicated than originally plan and Steve was on top of every issue. His advice and support was much appreciated. Steve frequently sent me updates and was always available to communicate with. Our home was not very expensive yet Steve supported us with a significant volume of potential buyers that generated several offers. I highly recommend Steve and will to my family and friends.

- Don B.

Steve is such a likeable and very knowledgeable Realtor. He is talented technically and his work shows this. He is diligent, dutiful and driven. You will be in good hands with Steve Russo, with either 'Buying a Home' or with 'Selling your current property'.. He is highly recommended by me.

Steve is very knowledgeable in listing our home for sale on many websites. He provided great guidance on preparing our home for sale. He is very courteous and encouraging and able to answer any question about selling a home. He provided many open house showings. He did a thorough financial analysis of prospective buyers to pre-qualify them before we had to sign the contract. We highly recommend Steve to anyone selling their home.

Steve was great at helping us stage a house for rent and at helping us through the process. Steve was very honest and put in a lot of work into making our first rental a success. I would highly recommend him for your real estate needs.

We’d been trying to sell the house on an off for more than 5 years. Steve did a great job helping us market it, and then keeping the sale process on track with a long and complicated closing process. His knowledge of local contractors was a big help in dealing with a number of issues. We strongly recommend him.

Hi Steve! I just wanted to thank you again for the excellent service you gave George and I in helping us find our final 'dream house'.... I have a new appreciation for all the detail work that you provided us. Throughout our process of searching for our house, whatever minor question I had - I always received an answer promptly....you returned all '101' of my emails with calming, reassuring words and guidance on how to handle all my possible situations. You made buying a house from out of state effortless!! When I meet people in need of selling or buying real estate, I will happily say - ' call Steve Russo' he will take care of you with excellence. You deserve not 4 stars for the best customer service - but 5 stars for above of beyond! You care about your clients, and it shows. Bravo to you!! I'll vote for you for agent of the year for Prudential anytime. Again, Thank you so very, very much Steve.

We want to express our appreciation for everything you did to make the rental of our house possible. You gave us great support, advice and encouragement through the process. Your helping us determine the right price, screen applicants and create marketing for the house was invaluable. It was great having you help us navigate an unfamiliar process.

Steve Russo, from our very first contact, distinguished himself as a serious and aggressive professional. Working at first from just a phone interview Steve provided several homes and organized an afternoon of touring homes, for a Sunday to meet our schedule!! One of the homes is the very home I am sitting in writing this! Steve is personable, energetic and clearly had our needs first and foremost. Steve would be the person I would recommend to anybody in the Nashua area seeking the highest quality, friendliest, most professional representation in the real estate market! Thank You for making Steve Russo available to us!

Michelle, Vanessa, Gwynneth and Joe Jr. and I are settled into the new house and loving it! We would like to thank you for the professionalism and exceptional service you provided us with the purchase of our home. Michelle and I knew that we would use your services prior to looking for our house based on your past performance with us during our rental contract you stood out in terms of your experience and knowledge of the Brookline. We are excited to start our new chapter and are extremely happy with the home we purchased.

We especially appreciate the professionalism and hard work you did for us: negotiating the contract. You always maintained the perfect balance of professionalism, good humor, patience, understanding and diplomacy. You have been a true delight to work with on a personal level as well, reassuring us and comforting us through the stressful task of closing on a house.

Based on our experiences with selling and purchasing homes before this one, you have, by far, been the best real estate agent that we have worked with and we would highly recommend you to anyone looking for a real estate agent. Once again, thanks for a job well done!

After 30 years in my home i decided to down-size and needed some guidance to get me through the sale process -- Steve was recommended to me by a neighbor and i am pleased that i followed up on that lead. Steve led me through the steps of preparing, listing, showing and ultimately selling my home. He provided valuable insights throughout the process and was patient, yet responsive, to my many questions. Communication via text, phone, email and ShowingTime app was timely and efficient. Most of all, Steve was honest and i trusted him. I highly recommend Steve for your future real estate needs.

My girlfriend and I just closed on our first home. We couldn't be happier with how Steve handled every part of our search. I found Steve through a mutual friend's recommendation, and met with him a few months before really beginning our search. Steve understood that and let us casually window shop without trying to force us into anything. This continued when we began actually visiting homes. Steve never tried to sway us one way or another - just providing us with the facts and letting us make the decisions ourselves. It made the process very stress free. As first time home buyers, we didn't know the ins and outs of the process, but Steve guided us every step of the way. In many cases, he went well above and beyond what I would have expected anyone to do. He spent countless hours dealing with the town to sort out an issue with the property we ended up purchasing, due to faulty town records. I did almost all of my communication through email, and every single one was promptly answered, with well researched and clear answers to every single question I had.

I would not hesitate to recommend Steve to anyone.

I relocated our family from Australia and was scheduled to be booked into tiny temporary accommodation for 3 months. I wanted to find a permanent place for my family instead. We were introduced to Steve.

Steve represented me as a renters agent. I had a few places on my list within a 1 hour radius of his office. Nothing was any trouble for him. He gave a fabulous write up for every house he inspected for us and this ended up with him securing us a fantastic home on a huge acreage. Literally the house of our dreams. He looked after all of the issues of working with a slightly difficult renting agent and made the experience a total pleasure for my family. All of this whilst we were travelling from Australia with a family of five.

When we arrived in the USA we were able to move right in. A huge thanks to Steve. I highly recommend him to anyone that wants peace of mind and a zero stress experience.

My husband and I were very happy with the quality of service that Steve Russo provided and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking to buy or sell a home. Steve is both knowledgeable and professional. He is also very flexible with our difficult schedules and was always punctual at our meetings. It can be very stressful trying to find and purchase the right home and having a great realtor on your side can make or break it. Steve also gave us great recommendations for septic and home inspectors that did a very good job. I hope I never have to buy another home, but I will recommend Steve Russo to any friends or family looking for a realtor they can trust

- Christy McNiss

Steve was extremely thorough, knowledgeable and very professional. He was just the sort of 'crosses his T's and dots his I's' type of person we needed on our team! Highly recommend!

Top Notch. Two thumbs way up. Steve looked out for my family's best interest. He went above and beyond helping my pregnant wife and I find our first home. He simplified the complex home buying process for us. He alleviated our stress by thoroughly explaining where we stood through out the process. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a positive experience.
